Ride BART - Bay Area Rapid Transit

BART has one of the highest on-time performance records in the nation (unless they shut the system and internet down to prevent public protests), but do give yourself a little extra time in case you miss a transfer or encounter an unanticipated delay. Use BART's trip planner to look up BART times and to download the convenient printable version to take with you.

Oakland Airport (OAK)- Oakland International Airport is the closest airport to BADCamp. It is about 45 minutes away via public transit (BART), or 30 minutes by car or local shuttle service.

San Francisco Airport (SFO) - San Francisco International Airport is across the bay from Berkeley and is an alternative airport to fly into. It is about 70 minutes away via public transit (BART), or 40 minutes to 2 hours (depending on traffic) by car or local shuttle service.

San Jose Airport (SJC)- The San Jose airport is the farthest away Bay Area airport. It is about 2 hours away via public transit (with several transfers) or 1 hour by car or local shuttle service.

Local Transportation from Airports:

OAK to Berkeley: There are many transportation options to choose from including car rentals, limousine services, and shuttle vans. We recommend taking BART from OAK to Berkeley as it's the easiest and greenest way to get there. While BART does not go directly to Oakland’s airport there is a shuttle service offered called AirBART that travels back and forth from the airport and train station for a nominal fee.

Public Transit from Oakland Airport:

  • Get on the Bus called AirBART
  • @ Coliseum/Oakland Airport Station get off the bus.
  • Take the Richmond bound train

SFO to Berkeley: The easiest and most affordable way to travel to Berkeley from SFO is to take BART. The SFO BART Station is located on the Departures/Ticketing Level of the International Terminal. You will need to make a transfer to ensure you’re on a Richmond bound train to the Downtown Berkeley station.

Public Transit from San Francisco Airport:

  • Take the Pittsburgh / Bay Point bound train
  • @ the Macarthur station, transfer onto the Richmond bound train
  • @ the Downtown Berkeley station, exit.
  • Walk 2 blocks East towards UC Berkeley Campus.

By Train

  • Amtrak offers service to Berkeley stopping at the Berkeley station, Emeryville station, or Richmond station. The Berkeley station is on the far end of Berkeley. We recommend you take the Amtrak to the Richmond Station and then transfer to BART to the downtown Berkeley station.

By car

  • From San Francisco, Berkeley is a simple 15-minute drive (45 minutes during commuting hours) east on Interstate 80 across the Bay Bridge and up to University Avenue.
  • From Sacramento, Berkeley is an hour and a half drive west on Interstate 80.
  • From Los Angeles and Southern California, Berkeley is a 6 hour drive up Interstate 5, then west on Interstate 580.

By bus

  • Greyhound offers bus service to nearby Oakland and San Francisco.
  • Local bus service is provided by AC Transit.

By boat

  • There are ferries from Marin County and San Francisco to nearby Oakland, but are probably most useful as a scenic method of travel.

By bike

  • Berkeley is a bike-friendly town with plenty of bike lanes (even some bike-only roads) and scenic routes. Just remember to keep your bike safe and lock it up with a sturdy lock.
